Whew! man what a past couple of weeks! I’m sure anyone that keeps up with ACB basketball knows that we got a huge win 2 weekends ago over Regal Barcelona in the double overtime thriller. Then we came back this following week and got a very important road win vs. Juventut. On top of that, my family came out for the week and got to see the island and watch me play professionally for the second time… It has been a really refreshing half of a month. Its been a little while since i blogged but as you can tell I am keeping the new name of “The Quez Chronicles”. I think its catchy. I have a lot of things to catch you guys up on.
On the court
Right now the team is in a very good place. It has taken a while but we are finally starting to hit our stride. Even with the early losses, everyone on our team has continued to show a commitment to improving and getting better and I think these past couple of games it has finally paid off for us. We have a good group of guys that are pretty unselfish and our last two wins have been complete team efforts. The Barcelona game was absolutely amazing. Our fans had the building rocking! It is hard to win in Gran Canaria when our fans come out and support us like that. The atmosphere was great. One thing I am proud of from this effort is that we played with the lead and controlled most of the game. A lot of people were expecting us to get blasted but I had a great feeling about the spirit of our team heading into this one. Although we led for most of the time Barcelona is a great team and they made a big run on us by hitting 3 or 4 clutch 3 point shots to close the gap. Interestingly enough, the run came from their bench players and not their starters. Once the bench players made it close, Juan Carlos Navarro came in and made some huge plays and put it into overtime twice. That guy is a hell of a basketball player. In the end everyone on our team stepped up and made more plays in the clutch and we came away with what could be a season changing win. We will see, we just have to keep building and hopefully that game will mark a turning point in our season.
The win Vs. Juventut was a tale of two halves. We went into half time down by 4 i believe, and in the 2nd half we really pulled away on them. Road wins in the ACB are hard to come by so this win meant a lot because they are now only one game ahead of us in the classification/standings. I had a lot of fun that game getting to play against Derrick Obasohan, he is a good friend of mine as we both went to the University of Texas at Arlington and we work out together in the summers. I will definitely be talking plenty of trash to him this summer after getting this win lol. WIth that said, Juventut is a very hard team to defend. I think Pooh Jeter is the fastest point guard in the league. I really like his game. There are a couple things I think I am going to steal from him as I continue to work on my game this summer. Moving on, Our next game is against Fuenlabrada. They beat us out there last time so we are looking to take care of business at home. I know the home crowd will be wild so it should be pretty tough for them. I will probably do a ticket giveaway for that game so stay tuned for that.
And also, congratulations to Jaycee Carroll on his 36 point game last night. He has me beat by 1 point for this year’s season high in the ACB, for now. That was an incredible performance.
Off the court
My mother, father, sister, and brother all came out to the island for a week to get away from the states for a little while and keep me company. I really needed it mentally. Many times having a great off the court life helps you out on the court. I feel much more refreshed and ready to finish up the season strong. More importantly, it was great to get some home cooked food! I took them to a few different places on the island. We went to Playa de Las Canteras, Playa del Ingles, and we also checked out the Maspalomas Sand dunes. They look like something out of movie set or something. They offered us to take a camel ride through the sand dunes but i’m not very big on animals so I opted to snap a few pictures and keep it moving. I took them to a lot of different restaurants but they ended up liking El Churrasco the best. My family ended up taking a million and one pictures so I think I am going to have my mother and sister send me their pictures and I will make a photo album of their trip out here.
Other than that things have been good. I have been playing more Playstation 3 lately. I am usually playing Call of duty or NBA 2k12. If you see me online feel free to send me a game invite and get smacked up. My gamer tag is QH_Z-ro. You guys know that I’m always looking for new games on the Ipad2 and i found one. It’s called “Draw something” and basically is a 2 player game where you draw something on your iPad and send it to the other person and they have to guess what you drew. Its a fun game to play with people you know. My username on there is QuezTwoZeros if you want to play with me.
Lastly, I want to show some love to my University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks Men’s Basketball team. Coach Scott Cross and seniors Lamarcus Reed, Bo Ingram, and Bradley Gay led them to a hell of season and one that will definitely go down in history. I like to think i helped to lay some foundation for what those guys accomplished this year and they really took it to another level. They built something this year and we’ll be back even stronger next year. BleedBlue! GoMavs!
Almost forgot, you guys know I like to tweet ( @QuezHaynes00 ) and I do the Facebook thing a little bit too even though I have been slacking on that, but now I’m also on Instagram which is basically like twitter but you don’t use words, you use pictures to show what you’re doing instead of talking about it. So if you have an iPhone, an iPad, or an iPod touch you should check out it. Follow me on instagram @QuezTwoZeros.

I’m so happy Spartaquez… Good days for you and for us too!!! Thank you so much!

There were two really important wins for sure! The team is working well, and first pic shows a little bit of that. I’m also glad that you and your family liked the island beaches overall, which is one of the best things we have to offer.
P.S: I have just noticed that there are like some quotes that appear randomly behind the tile “News”, that’s great. I take this one: “Never doubt what you know you can do”
